Kennel Round 7 - The Beast's Blood is Up

The beast is plainly in full bloodlust now, and no longer has any fear for any of you.

We'll start with incidental damage, to those adjacent to the creature just now.  [technically, I should have rolled incidental damage against Engelhart last round, when the creature moved adjacent to both Engelhart and Lothar together ... but retconning it, no damage occurred].  Engelhart and Bergthora are adjacent.  Engelhart takes 1 damage.

Next, Embla bleeds for another 1 damage.  I have her listed at zero hit points. She's fine, not stunned from bleeding, but she will have a chance to fall unconscious once she slips below -3.  Thereafter, we roll each round; and if she slips into unconsciousness, without care she'll bleed out and die.

Last round, Bergthora came closer to getting a hit, so she's the threat in the beast's eyes ... she gets the bite and Engelhart gets the claw.

I roll a 4 against Bergthora.  She deftly dodges the blow and is unharmed.

I roll a 19 against Engelhart.  Thankfully, this is only the claw.  It causes 5 damage, which is not enough to stun the cleric.

The creature makes no effort to change its position at this time.

The party can now act.  No one is stunned.  Fjall will probably want to pull a weapon and join in, but if you'd rather he tried to load again, that's up to you. With four defenders yet standing, that would be a reasonable choice for him.

Following the party's move, here's how things appear:

And the experience thus far:

[I'm getting set to run a game at the moment, so I'll have to wait until tonight to chime in.]

Where did the axe I throw go?

Well, if everyone's feeling so ceremonious about striking, I'll do the honours:

Attack Roll: 7.

Damage: irrelevant.

I still have 2 AP on me... and I'm thinking it might be advantageous for us all to strike and pull back, so as a to free up space for flank and rear attacks from some of you, this make any sense?

Lost in the rubble. Lots of good sized stones to throw, however.

I guess that's where I am at this point.

I pick up a rock, move to 404, and throw it at the creature.

13+1(Str)-2(nonproficiency?)=12 to-hit, and I don't know what a stone's damage is (not that it will matter).

Fjall has 1 hit point, and that beast packs a whallop. And since there isn't space enough to get to the beast for a sword strike, Fjall will move up to 0803 and throw his dagger. It's not as large a damage potential, but it's immediate, and he's proficient with it.

Attack: 10.
Oh well.

Bergthora attacks again with her shortsword. And rolls a 19!!! 2 damage. The beast is right to consider her a threat.

Lothar not being able to close and attack with his sword this round will instead pull his dagger and throw it at the beast.

Attack: Natural 20! Follow up d20 comes up a 6.
Damage: 1. Well. At least my d20 has started cooperating.

At least we hit it. Hopefully we're getting close to the stun-lock.

Lothar, not seeing an opportunity to both close and attack this round

This party truly has some atrocious luck. By my calculations we'd need 5 damage to stun away the creature's bite attack... two hits later and one of them a crit to boot: 4 measly damage to show for.

Damn.

Damage is damage. We're getting closer at least.

Okay, home from work, I'll start catching up.

2 damage, then 2 more damage. No stuns. The beast is hurting, however ... if you could just get 4 damage all in one place ...

As I have said before Embla,

We do NOT add strength bonuses to missile weapons.

Once more please:

We DO NOT add strength bonuses to missile weapons.

Good, I'm glad that's clear.

A fist-sized rock does 1d4. You were +1 for the throw, you're at point blank range; but the -2 proficiency penalty does contribute to the miss (would have been anyway).

Lothar, if you had thought about it, Bergthora could have shifted to her left, using her AP to do so, attacking out of 0403. Lothar could have then moved into 0502 and used his weapon to attack.

Just sayin'.
