The hex numbers on the map have been adjusted due to Mikael's decision to move back [moving 3 hexes would have cost him 4.5 AP, with the note I made after, so I moved him back 2 hexes, saving the 2 AP Mikael asked for]. I forgot to add a red line to indicate the move [sigh; out of practice].
The toad merely moves to the left of the whirling "snow"-devil, letting out a loud croak. A gas cloud emerges with the croak, obscuring the toad for a moment before it is sucked up into the snow-devil. The toad takes no other action.
The party can move again. This means Engelhart can take a second attack. Lothar and Embla did not make a move with the last post [that I saw]. I'm just going to rule that, given that they had plenty of time, that the opportunity passed them by.
Everyone has the freedom to act as they will.

Uhm, very well...
I think it is either trying to keep its distance so as to cast from afar or inviting us into pounce range. Personally I don't much care for charging all the way up through this snow drift but it might prove warranted, we've got 3 more rounds of Dust Devilry, it is still engaged for now.
We ought to consider riddling the thing with ranged attacks so that it'll feel colder in the distance.
Alexis: do I know if this being has any inherent spellcasting capability, given that I've recognized it before through my beast knowledge? Can I read its expectable behaviour?
Well, I wanted to get another spell off, but since none of my party mates are yet in a position to make a ranged attack and the thing might not need a whole round to cast (Alexis: this is the case with inherent spellcasting, correct?)
I advance into 0811 and bid the dust devil onto 1207.
Attack Roll: natural 20, followed by a 14
Damage Roll: 6, for a total of 12 damage
Ok, now it ought to be feeling the sting.
Actually, scratch the movement, since I remembered I do have my loaded sling in hand, I'll just complement the ranged opposition right here from where I am, in 0712.
Attack Roll: 11 (-2), gives back a 9.
Damage Roll: 1.
Oh well, my heart was in the right place.
I fetch my javelin, which is secured to my belt, and throw it at the toad.
I'm traveling at the moment and don't have my dice. Alexis, would you roll for me, please?
That does hit, Engelhart, and clearly affects the toad. It flips over in the snow and looks stunned.
[The toad is not a beast. To know what it is, or what it would do, you would need to druid study, "Reptiles & Amphibians." It may have unusual powers, but it does not act nor behave as a beast would, which are a collection of unusual species]
I throw my regular dart at the toad (2 AP).
D20: 10 (roll 11, -2 for range of 10, +1 for DEX)
Damage: 1
I 5hen draw another regular dart (0 AP)
[sorry for the absence, got carried up in Xmas with the family]
I fetch my javelin, which is attached to my backpack (that would take my whole round, no?)
No worries Rob, we all did. And I'm sick besides. Yep, that would take a round; but let's say you've already done it, since two full rounds have already gone by and you haven't moved much.
Ok great.
So then I hurl my javelin toward the giant toad.
attack roll: 11 (Do I incur any maluses because of my poor dexterity (7) ?)
damage roll: 4
[Hey guys. Been essentially bed-ridden since yesterday morning. But I think I'm getting over this. The holiday has been playing havoc with the game and this too, but we will get this thing off the ground]
[Engelhart, before I crashed I was working on a monster species list:
[Note that some creatures have been dropped from the list, notably astral wolves, blink dogs and lycanthropes. I have decided to move these creatures into other species, so they won't be covered by beast knowledge any more]
Thank you kindly, Alexis, it should serve us well in the future.
[Anxiously waiting for the next round to get off the ground].
[Hey all. Thank you for the Christmas break. Expect a post in the morning; Lothar never commented on this one but there's been plenty of time]
Rest assured the toad is stunned, and wounded by a piece of ice in Engelhart's whirlwind ~ 12 damage was done.
Making a long overdue javelin throw for Embla, I roll a 15 to hit. We established the toad at AC 6, so that hits for 1 damage (sorry Embla).
Mikael, I need you to make an intelligence check to see if you EVER find that dagger again. It could easily get lost in the snow forever.
Rob's javelin throw misses.
I think that catches us up for this round. Happy New Year.
Apologies for the long silence. I took last week off of work and I was busy with family stuff up till about now. I'm back in the office tomorrow so I'll be better about responding from now on.
Engelhart, as I create the map, you have to move to 0811 - or else you can't move the dust devil to 1207, because that would be too far. Which would mean the attack didn't count. I'm going to have to hold you to the original move you stated; I would normally be happy to retcon, but as the roll has been made I shouldn't in this case. The reposition does not threaten you, as the toad is stunned.
No worries, Lothar. I've been the worst.
The next post is up.
No worries, Alexis.
I hadn't understood that the Dust Devil still retained its maximum range past being cast, I was instead under the impression that once loose it could be commanded from a greater range (though which certainly isn't specified).
