As the creatures emerge from the fog, it is clear that they are humanoid heads, shoulders and arms attached to slug-like bodies. They have no weapons, but they look unearthly.
The players take little action, choosing to let the creatures come on ... the last of them emerges from the fog, letting the players see their whole number:

As a reminder, I had cast Armor on Rob for 5. My long range is 11-15 hexes, so I believe they are in range for me?
"Stay in a group, don't let them surround us. They move slow, we'll retreat if necessary."
Long range with ?? The range on the spell armor is touch, so I assume you've touched Rob with your hand to discharge the spell for him. Consider that last round.
Oh, a dart. Yes, long range is 11 to 15. But remember, your THACO is 26 at long range; you're minus 5 to hit.
[FYI, I have an hour long meeting starting in about 20 minutes]
-4 for me, but the point stands. I hold action, nodding at Lothar's words.
[no worries, Lothar. Engelhart and Embla are unknown, Rob is compromised, you and Mikael are alone ... and I can't really skip over other moves. At least the combat is actually started; we'll move at whatever speed reality allows. Focus on your meeting, we'll see you later.
[me, I have a migraine]
I'm good where I stand. I have my weapon and shield ready for battle
Shit, that is a lot of larval flesh.
I think I'll try something new: I'll advance one hex and get to cast the reverse of Bless which, if I'm reading correctly, ought to affect twelve of these things (no save, apparently), which would be a net win over casting it on the five of us.
Am I overlooking something, Alexis?
Seems right to me, Engelhart. The range on your reverse spell is 30 feet, so you can affect only those creatures that are within six hexes at the moment you discharge your spell. They don't seem to have a range attack (though of course you can't be sure), but it will still cut it close; should give you time to draw or withdraw, whichever your intent is.
[I'm back now]
Correction: there is so little change, I've decided to simply update the post above. The creatures continue to approach. The players are free to take action this round (consider it round 2).
How many hexes away is the closest to me?
Surely you can count, Mikael.
What is their movement, since they moved forward?
Sorry, I missed the new image
3 hexes per round. The nearest is 8 hexes away.
I throw my dart at the larva is 1816 (8 hexes away, medium range, -2)
D20 roll: 10
Adjusted: 9 (-2 for range, +1 for DEX)
Damage: 1
"It slipped a bit..."
I end my turn
[ out of the car now ]
I am still standing, ready.
I retreat one hex, holding the spell for a round. It is, however, looking ever more foolish for us to stand our ground in the face of these odds, unless these things really do prove themselves exceptionally soft.
Somebody ought to light a torch, they may prove vulnerable to fire.
Mikael has a torch in his left hand
The 10 will miss. Just for clarity, Mikael, please say "a non-magic dart" or "a common dart" or something similar, and reserve "my dart" for the magical one. It just keeps things clearer.
Noted Engelhart, Rob. I'd like to let Lothar speak.
Sure, will do going forward.
"They are many, but slow. Strike and retreat, they do not seem threatening but for numbers."
[My apologies - I grossly overslept]
Willa would have been very useful here.
I throw my javelin at the one in 1715. 5-1(range) is 4, hits AC 15. That's a miss, I think.
Oh, I've still a lot of goodies to throw in the pot. But this party isn't usually very big on fighting retreats.
Have to see how it goes. Embla misses. Lothar spends 4 AP speaking. So we move on. Shouldn't take long.
The next post is up.
