Ice Lake Round 3 & 4 ~ The Slow Charge
As the creatures get nearer, they bunch up, focused on the party. Their heads and arms appear to be made of spongy fluid, but their jaws open twice, perhaps three times as wide as a humans, and are full of teeth. There is anger in their white-and-grey eyes, and their arms are wide and swinging as they come forward.
If Engelhart moves forward one hex immediately, into hex 1922, he's in a position to affect 12 of the creatures right now. I didn't plan it that way, but counting it comes out.
Once the players have acted, they just keep coming on, somewhat mindlessly. Those in orange have been cursed by the cleric's spell.
Then, following the player's move, here are the positions of the combatants.

I draw a common dart (0 AP)
I throw it at the larva in 1819 (short range, 5 hexes away)
D20 roll: 12
Damage roll: 3
I move and discharge. But I want to quickly double two hexes back, as I have no wish to stay there.
I shift my battleaxe into a handaxe (what's the AP cost of that?) and throw it at the creature in 1718.
I roll a 2, with 6 damage. Ouch.
Mikael, that hits AC 9, which is a miss.
Embla, let's say the adjustment is a 1 AP cost. A 2 is a fumble, but as no one is in the angle of 60 degrees in front of you, there's no friendly fire. Embla's axe is in 1719.
Engelhart, with the next post, the affected creatures will be orange in color.
Standing my ground
I hold, waiting for them to close. "Embla and Engelhart, try to take the ends of the line, I'll hold the center."
The post above has been updated. Make sure you see the 2nd map added to the post before commenting. The players are not attacked this round, and may act as best they can.
I cast Thump targeting hex 1818. I then draw a common dart.
I attack the larva in 1822.
Attack: 14+1=15, Hits AC 2.
Damage: 8+1=9
The creature makes its saving throw; you have 2 AP left, Mikael, though you've had your attack.
Lothar, that hits and kills.
Thinking about it, as you hit, the creature disappears, a la Buffy, in a cloud of sand.
Oops, I misread how the cantrip worked. Well, live and learn. Maybe. I end my turn.
I move to 1922 and attack the larva in 1921.
Attack roll: natural 20, followed with a 10.
Damage roll: 4 (+1), doubled to 10 damage.
I move to 1623 and attack the one in 1522.
Attack roll: 19
Damage roll: 4
The creature in 1921 dies and vanishes in another puff of sand. Rob, your creature is stunned by your blow.
Waiting for Embla.
I recall my axe (2 questions: how many AP does that require, and is there a chance it will strike a creature on its way back to my hand?)
No, it won't ... but if you have four AP, you can call it back and swing in the same round. If you have five AP, you can call it, adjust it and swing it as a battle axe in the same round.
I have 4 AP, so I call it back, adjust it, and hold my ground.
Working on the next round. Will be a bit longer.
The next post is up. I'll keep tabs, but we're pretty well done for the day.
