A Discovery

The now-dead frogling has nothing unusual on its body, except a hemp wristband and necklace and the thrown spear-head.  As before, the spear head is made of adamantite and weighs about 3.5 lbs.

There is nothing else moving around you; apparently, this one was left behind because it was considered too weak for the war party.  At the same time, however, you find a hole in the ground about five feet from where it was originally standing.

The hole leads underground by means of an interior sloped rock wall, similar to a climbing wall, except the hand-holds are made of carved stone.  They are also a little narrow for human fingers, but would serve a frogling's narrower fingers quite well.

The slope, about 80-degrees, is about twenty feet down.  The edge of the hole is made of carved stone blocks and was clearly not made in the last few days; it seems to have been "opened up" recently, suggesting there might be multiple entrances into multiple lairs, or perhaps all into a same single lair, stretching throughout an area surrounding the barrow.

At any case, Embla's heightened sense does not reach to the bottom of the sloping wall underground.

As I said, you know approximately where the barrow ought to be - over there, somewhere, towards the west.  The sun is getting lower - it is about half-past four, perhaps nearer to five, in the afternoon.

Actions?

Ooh, the temptation to sneak in, grab stuff and then scarper is strong with this one... :)

Worth a risk, guys?

It's what we've got to do. Dammit Oddsdrakken, this is the exact scenario I have you around for!

I'm sucking fumes for HP, but if I switch to the shield and handaxe I've got AC 2, enough that I should only be in trouble if we're outnumbered.

The only question that matters is if we're going to shimmy down this hole, or if we're going to search for the main barrow.

Have we got any rope handy?

No, but nothing indicates that we will really need one just yet.

Spending the night in frog-country is wack but we do need to at least probe. These 300-odd frogs had to have come from somewhere.

Even finding just an armoury seems like it'll suffice, for looting purposes.

I'm AC 4 and with plenty of Hp, I offer to take the point, though Embla could do it by sneaking.

(I retrieve my sling from where I dropped it, in case none of you thought to bring it along to me).

I'll unwind the crossbow and pass it to Fjall. I'll need the extra AP, especially if we're climbing.

I'm afraid I'll have to head in last, especially since I'll need a few extra moments to get my shield readied.

Do be sure to sort out precisely among yourselves the order of entry.

I'll sneak in first.

I'm second, as soon as Embla signals the go-ahead from down under.

Engelhart,

I stumbled across an interesting text on line, which I've adapted for your Demi-Gods knowledge. Presume that this is something you heard once upon a time in your younger years, which is just now being remembered as you find yourself adventuring. I've written the information as a new post, as a Tale of Demi-Gods.

[Hello all.

[Listen, I did not get done as much yesterday as I would have hoped; I know that I said we'd have today to run a bit, but if you'll forgive me, I'm going to just concentrate on art until Monday. It has been a fairly good two weeks, we've made progress, you've got yourself on the edge of a dungeon again, etc. I hope you'll forgive this lapse]

[oh, and let me add that the skill 'heightened balance' under the sure-footedness study has been renamed 'stability,' to clarify a misnomer with the 'balance' study, of which 'heightened balance' is not a part.

[sometimes these things, invented at different moments, serve to create confusion, particularly in situations where we are cutting hairs between two types of skills, in this case the difference between physical ability to step with surety and the physical ability to keep equilibrium ~ the former meant primarily as proactive and the latter meant primarily as defensive]

I've written a new post.
