Round 15 - The Party Forges On
The zombrats above attack Rob and Valda.
Against Rob, the zombrat rolls a 17. This will cause 7 damage, mauling rob and driving him back into hex 1113.
The rat against Valda hits AC 5, with a 14 ... the zombrat will cause 2 damage. Valda lives, but it stuns and leaves her in 1011.
I'll remember to mark them this round. Neither rat will advance.
The players can act now.
After the player's moves, the positions are as follows:
And the experience so far.

Mikael collects himself, and throws a dart at the rat in 0912.
Attack roll: 12 + 1 + 1 = 14
Damage roll: 2
I wish I had healing selves so I could be more useful. I draw another dart, and that is my turn.
Hits and damage done. So it goes with 1st-level, spongy mages. Remember you can go all the way to -9 before you die.
I take Valda's place in 1010 and swing at the rat in 1009.
Attack roll: 11, modified to 13.
Damage roll: 4.
[OOC: End of the day. I trust that was a wild ride; I can't hear you, can't see your faces, so I have to ask for written feedback. It's been a full two days of continuous combat, since the rats entered yesterday morning. I'm beat. There's a fair chunk of experience coming ... though there is no sign of any treasure in this room]
Hits and stuns, Engelhart.
I realize that I forgot to say that Valda made her morale check after Lothar brought her back from consciousness. It drops her morale to a 7.
It's been good. A lot to learn, mainly. My comment was not me fretting about my hit points, it was me wishing I could figure out how to help my allies because I still had 3 AP.
When all else fails, put yourself in a place where you can be hit the next round; it saves the damage your more powerful allies suffer, and gives you experience.
This has been fantastic. Also quite stressful - the nasties keep coming!
I believe my attack won't stun because the creature is undead(?)
[Combat's been hectic, but not quite what I would call difficult (nothing like the time that dogman nearly got us all bagged)]
Yes. I've hit hard a couple of times but on the whole the party has gotten off light.
GAWD, Engelhart. I'm clearly tired. The zombrat isn't stunned. Duh. I appreciate you taking that one on the chin and letting me know.
[Mikael, I've tried to address that issue. http://tao-dnd.blogspot.ca/2018/05/what-to-do-what-to-do.html]
I probably deserved that one...
I sincerely meant it to be helpful.
I read it as tongue in cheek. Mostly because I am imagining Mikael drunkenly throwing darts, then attempting to convince four experienced fighters to let him tag along.
It was not written tongue in cheek. Get Valda out of the fight. Sustain her with some ale. Give her praise. Light a torch. Check out the hallway where the rats came from. Get your pack and Rob's pack together. Stack the zombrat bodies together, it might be wise to burn them or dump them in one of the pits. Etcetera!
"When all else fails, put yourself in a place where you can be hit the next round; it saves the damage your more powerful allies suffer, and gives you experience."
That was my tactic.
The game has been enjoyable. This fight has felt quite hectic as ennemies keep appearing (and disappearing in the case of that mud orc...).
I've been having a blast. Emotions up and down, crits against us (me), crits against our enemies (obviated by magicality), it's been a wild ride. And then the stankorc just sneaking in there without a comment, letting us twist on the image, and then it dimension dooring around. Frankly, I'm still quite concerned with what kind of damage it might do if we don't find it quick and put it down. It's been a hell of a fight, and I'm loving it.
[Slept in ... give me 20 minutes to orient myself and we'll get started]
[ok.]
Okay, we've established that Engelhart's blow does not stun; Pandred swings at her rat, hits, causes 4 damage. This does not kill either.
I'm dragging a bit getting updating the player's moves, but I'm on it.
The post above is updated.
The next post is up.
