Aleksandra Ivanovna Character

This post is for Dani's female dwarven assassin.

Please look at the creation I made for Rowan.  This will follow the same general pattern.  Adjusting for age and race, Aleksandra gains +1 strength and +1 constitution for being mature and +1 constitution and -1 charisma for being a dwarf.  This gives you:

Strength: 13
Intelligence: 12
Wisdom: 10
Constitution: 17 +3 hp/die
Dexterity: 17
Charisma: 5

As an assassin, you start with 1d8 for hit points.  This is a recent change I am making to the assassin character, changing it from a "thief" class to a "fighter" class.  At first level, hit points are always maximum, so you start with 8 hit points.  Because you are a "fighter" now, the bonus constitution at 17 is +3 per die (for non-fighter classes it would only be +2).  This gives you 11 hp.  You weigh 106 lbs., giving you a d6 for mass hit points.  I rolled a 4, so you start with 15 hit points.

Your maximum encumbrance is 97 lbs.  You do not suffer any movement penalty if you carry 39 lb. or less.

Natural armor class is 7.  Your THAC0 is 20.

I'm afraid that there are three classes for which I have no sage abilities arranged: the assassin, monk and bard.  I will be working on these things.  In the meantime, you should decide on three weapon proficiencies that your character will possess.  Assassins can use any weapon, so pick from this list.

The gambler skill indicated gives you 10 knowledge points in gambling, regardless of what sage abilities you will later possess.  Gambling will probably be an assassin choice, so if you do choose it the 10 points will NOT be added to rolls you make there.

Remember to buy cigars when we get around to buying stuff.  You're addicted.

Do you want to keep your man-at-arms?  Read rules about followers on the wiki.  He may be a friend but he will still have to be paid.

Your penalty of -1 to hit if you're awoken from a sleep lasts the length of the combat that follows.

For friendly fire rules, see this page on the wiki.

The -1 modifier when speaking to rich persons is to charisma checks you must make; effectively, your charisma is 4 with rich persons.

Thank you for the more detailed descriptions.

Weapon proficiencies: Bolas; Hand Axe; Battle Axe

I won't hire my man-at-arms.

Where was I born?

Sorry, missed it.

Somewhere a little more unusual. You were born in a village called Bronderslev, in Aalborg County, Jutland, Kingdom of Denmark & Norway.

Fabulous. Thank you.

Regarding your man-at-arms; he is still a friend. His name is Magnus. You can always change your mind. Assume he is taking some sort of work in Stavanger.

How many AP do I have?

Danielle Osterman said...

Lovely. That is what I hoped might happen.

Danielle Osterman said...

Oh dear. In light of discovering that a blade is necessary to backstab, may I change the battleaxe proficiency to longsword?

Alexis Smolensk said...

All those except for monks have 5 AP.

The battle axe has a blade.

Lovely. Thank you. Never mind, then.

I have also added a character blog for Aleksandra: http://aleksandraivanovna.blogspot.com/

I am just commenting to make sure I get e-mails from future comments.

It is too early to make a decision about your sage abilities, but here's a list to whet your appetite:

Assassin Sage Abilities

Oh my goodness! Appetite whetted!

Alexis, how does the gambling sage ability work? I can't seem to find it on the wiki.

Alexis Smolensk said...

That's because I haven't written it yet. It will eventually be a skill inside the Thief Study Double-dealing(part of the Thief field Fraud) or possibly chicanery, wherever it seems best.

For the time being, put it to rest: I will eventually get there . . . lol.

Embla Strand said...

Sounds great. And no rush. It's not like you have several hundred things to write at this moment or something. ;-)

Regarding your CLO list.

You realize I can add any other item to the present price table upon request. All I need for a different piece of clothing is the amount of material and the type of material.

We need to keep CLO simple; a lot of finicky measurements for what is protected and what isn't will slow people down, and I'm already insisting on encumbrance for that. I haven't decided what to do there; I'm going to see how the weather pans out and move towards a solution organically.

Embla Strand said...

Absolutely makes sense. I was simply trying to assign CLO values for items in your tailoring section that lacked an obvious entry in the CLO table - the rightmost two columns contain the relevant information to be used. I retained the middle column from the original source as a reference so that you could see how I assigned the CLO values to each garment.

Would it be possible to secure my bola beneath my sash? Easily accessible but concealed?

Embla Strand said...

Also, and this is fairly minor, my gymnastics results indicate that I can perform a handstand and a roundoff. Am I also able to perform a cartwheel, given the similarity between a cartwheel and roundoff?

Alexis Smolensk said...

Yep. Same thing.

Reading Gudbrand's page, does my 17 Dexterity grant me +1 or +2 to ranged attack rolls?

Alexis Smolensk said...

The dexterity grants you a +2 to ranged attacks.

Thank you for working on the Assassin sage abilities. Watching them take shape is quite exciting.

I feel that you have enough detail now to choose your assassin's sage abilities. I'll expand whatever study you choose, that you rate as an amateur in ~ and you do have an assassination ability, whatever you choose (see under Murder).

Let me know what you pick.

What dice do we roll to determine initial knowledge points? The knowledge points entry in the wiki indicates that the dice rolled vary by class.

Embla Strand said...

Additionally, how would (or would) my terrifically low Cha interact with the Guile study?

Alexis Smolensk said...

Because of being on line, I've been randomly generating numbers for everyone, for all the gains in sage abilities.

You choose a field, then a study inside that field. The study, your specialty, gets an automatic 12 pts of knowledge to start, then a d12 for each level thereafter.

The other studies in your chosen field get a d8 minus 1 per level.

All other studies outside your chosen field get a d4 minus 1 per level.

Guile does not depend in any way on charisma. If your charisma is low, it is presumed that you act so weak and pathetic as to be dismissed and disregarded. The questions you would ask under the Acceptance skill assume that you aggrandize yourself to get the knowledge you seek with subtlety and groveling, not through being likeable.

I intend to expand the guile skill to stress social invisibility and a sense that you're trustworthy because you're too frightened/weak/dependent to be a threat, not because of charismatic manipulation. Even the ugliest person can manage that, even use their ugliness to enhance it. You're Igor, yes?

Embla Strand said...

Perfect. I can be Igor. A busty, expectorating Igor.

Then I choose Grace, specializing in Guile.

To confirm, you will roll and give me my knowledge points?

Embla Strand said...

And I'm sorry to hear about your work situation. I hope that it is less stressful than anticipated.

Alexis Smolensk said...

Well, it will be stressful ~ but on the bright side, I now have heaps of seniority.

You will find the Drive has been updated with your assassin's sage abilities.

Embla Strand said...

I don't see stealth as one of the Assassin's sage abilities... Is it meant to fold into skullduggery?

Embla Strand said...

Thank you for the opportunity, but I'll stick with Guile. I was going to pick Skullduggery at my next opportunity - now I am even more incentivized to do so.
